At Sweet Feet Child Care, Leanne must at all times provide effective supervision that ensures the safety, well-being, and development of the children. I believe that effective supervision is more than just watching children; it is about using strategies that promote effective supervision practices and create safe environments for the children I care for. These strategies reduce the risk of harm to children by preventing injuries and accidents. They also promote positive, responsive, and intentional learning environments for children.

Guidance and Treatment of Children:

Activities within the program will be monitored and adjusted accordingly, in consultation with parents to promote ongoing development.

Positive guidance techniques will be used to encourage appropriate behavior. They include:

  • Establishing clear, consistent, and simple limits

  • Stating limits in a positive way

  • Focusing on the behavior, rather than on the child

  • Stating what is expected, rather than pose questions

  • Providing real choices

  • Allowing time for children to respond to expectations

  • Reinforce appropriate behavior, with both words and gestures

  • Encourage children to use me as a resource when they cannot resolve issues on their own.

Inevitably there will be occurrences of inappropriate behavior. It is at these times that there may be a need to intervene. The following intervention strategies, or combination of the strategies, will be used to help ensure that guidance is supportive, rather than punitive.

  • Gain attention in a respectful way

  • Remind children of more appropriate behavior

  • Acknowledge feelings before setting limits

  • Redirect or divert when appropriate

  • Model problem-solving skills

  • Offer appropriate choices

  • Use natural and logical consequences

  • Provide opportunities for children to make amends. Rather than demand a superficial apology, encourage genuine opportunities for children to restore relationships after an incident of hurt or harm.

Any serious concerns will be discussed with the family so that we might work together to encourage appropriate behavior. If all interventions have been exhausted and no improvement in behavior has occurred, Leanne will inform parents that their child may be removed from Child Care.

Covid-19 Policies and Procedures

During this very uncertain time I will be transparent with my clients.  If there are any issue of illness with children that are attending or my family, I will let all parents with kids attending know of the illness. I take many steps to keep the kids in my care happy and healthy. Please also consider this when bringing your child as this is my home and family as well.

The following must be adhered to during this time. If your child, you or anyone in your home are ill – stay at home. My illness policy will be enforced.

*Please check your child's and your temperature daily before coming to Child Care.

For reference, normal temperatures are:
- Mouth: 35.5-37.5°C (95.9-99.5°F), - Underarm: 36.5 - 37.5°C (97.8-99.5°) and- Ear (not recommended in infants): 35.8-38.0°C (96.4-100.4°F)

  • Children will often have influenza or other respiratory viruses with symptoms similar to COVID-19 (i.e., influenza). For this reason, all children and families who are ill with fever, have cold, influenza or infectious respiratory symptoms of any kind need to stay home, no exceptions! You will be asked to take your child home if they show any signs of ill health (runny nose, sneezing, coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, rash of any kind ETC.).

  • If children and/or parents have symptoms, self-isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. After 5 days if you feel better, your symptoms have improved, AND you have had no fever for 72 hours (3 full days), you may return to Child Care.

  • Call 811 if you think you have COVID-19 or visit BC Center for Disease Control.

  • Fevers are common in young children and are often a sign that something is wrong. If your child has a fever of 99.9° or higher, please keep him/her home. If your child develops a fever of 99.9° or higher while in my care you will be called to pick him/her up.

  • Cold are a common occurrence. However, during this time a child that has symptoms of sneezing or coughing will be excused from my Child Care. These symptoms may be present with or without a fever.

  • Diarrhea due to illness is highly contagious. If your child has diarrhea, please keep him/her home. If your child has 1 or more diarrhea episodes, or any uncontained diarrhea while in my care or any instance of vomiting, you will be called to pick him/her up. I use gloves while changing diapers and use proper hand washing techniques between diaper changes. The changing pad is also disinfected after every diaper change. Please understand that germs from diarrhea can be spread through carpets, toys, swings, and direct contact. It is very difficult to keep from spreading these germs to other children. Please keep your child home for a minimum of 48 hours after the vomiting or diarrhea has stopped.

  • A rash may be a sign of many illnesses, such as measles, chicken pox etc. In infants an external rash may be a sign that something is going on internally. Do not bring your child to childcare with a rash until you have a doctors note that says it is ok to do so.

  • If your child becomes ill while at childcare, you will be notified for immediate pick-up.

Drop-off/Pick-ups of your child…

  • Please communicate daily with a “yes/no” if you or your child have symptoms of a common cold, influenza, Covid-19, or other respiratory disease.

  • I will meet you at the door, so that you do not have to step in, (please say goodbye to your child as quickly as possible).

  • Maintain social distancing as much as possible, so if you see another family is dropping off please wait your turn in your car so others can drop-off while keeping 6 feet apart.

  • Children must wash their hands with soap and water when arriving at Child Care and wash before going home as well.

  • Pick up will be the same routine, please wait for your child to come out to greet you. Please message me when you are on your way, I will have your child ready.
